Wall Audit & Structural Assessments

Wall condition audit and targeted structural assessments supporting asset renewal planning and public risk management across a local government area.

Haul was engaged by a local government authority to deliver a comprehensive Wall Condition Audit across its local government area. The audit covered over 195 retaining and freestanding walls, ranging from small-scale residential boundary structures to significant public infrastructure assets.

The objective was to complete a systematic visual condition and risk assessment to identify assets of concern—particularly those with a higher likelihood of structural failure or presenting public safety hazards. Assets assessed as Poor or Very Poor condition were progressed to detailed structural assessments, with outputs directly supporting the City’s asset management strategy and renewal programming.

What Haul Did
Haul delivered the audit using a structured, repeatable methodology to ensure consistent assessment, defensible risk ratings, and smooth integration into the City’s asset inventory and prioritisation processes.

– Field inspections including site safety checks, measurement of wall length and height, inclinometer testing for verticality, photo records every 10–20m, and GIS mapping to GDA2020 datum
– Data and risk assessment compiled into the City’s inventory system, including condition, risk and defect ratings, spatial updates, and fortnightly progress submissions
– Detailed structural assessments for high-risk walls by senior structural engineers, covering foundation stability, drainage performance, material degradation and safety risks, with recommendations for monitoring, repair or replacement
– Cost estimates and reporting to support budgeting, including remediation options from minor upgrades through to partial/full reconstruction, plus delivery of a final audit register and photo dataset for handover

All inspections were delivered on time and on budget, providing the City with a clear and practical basis for renewal prioritisation and risk management.
